William Griffith Quinney

Phill tells about his dad, Bill Quinney:

Dad, (Bill Quinney) was born in Logan, UT on June 22, 1923. As a child he liked building things and as a youth he was an athlete (field events, swimming and football). During WWII he was in the Navy as a Chief Pharmacist Mate (Paramedic). He was stationed on Guadalcanal and Bougainvillea in the Pacific with the CBs and Marines. He built hospitals and treated the wounded while airfields were being built. Once a pilot crash landed his plane and as it started to burn Dad struggled to free him from his harness. He worked with a dull knife barely pulling him free before the entire plane erupted in flames. We never heard this story until one of Buffy's sons interviewed Dad for a school project (he didn't like to toot his own horn). Dad received three bachelor's degrees in fine art, commercial art and elementary education. He also had a Masters Degree in Elementary Administration. He became a teacher and three years later became an elementary principal. He loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time fishing. After retirement Dad painted and fished. Mom and Dad served a mission in Canada mostly among the indigenous people.

Dad died in West Jordan, UT October 4, 1998. He was buried in Meridian, ID October 7, 1998.

Bill Quinney and Dorothy Ogden were married 16 June 1947 in Manti, UT. They had a big celebration in Richfield, UT with lots of the Ogden family there. Some of the best Ogden family wedding pictures are of this event.
